26-2021 – Riccardo Gori – Raku Express

June 27 – July 3 2021
Throwing training with a final Raku firing
For all
Introduction
Raku express includes throwing, glazing and final raku firings. Over the past 50 years, the raku firing techniques have developed enormously, offering a wide range of surface possibilities. In this workshop we will explore the aesthetic possibilities of coloured glazes and of smoke effects , typical of the raku technique.
Introduction
In Raku express, throwing will cover the first part of the week. We will make objects on the wheel that are suitable for our purpose of the second part, when we will be decorating and glazing. This includes developing pattern applying slips, then glaze the previously bisque-fired work. Firing will occur both on Thursday and on Friday in order to have as many opportunities as possible to develop our express raku firing tecniques.
Teaching method
Throwing techniques will be demonstrated and students will get instruction and much personal attention. Demonstrations in throwing will include basic processes and variations on vase form derived from the cylinder. Decoration techniques will include wax and tape resist, application of glazes and various glazing processes.
Logistics
On every classday, a delicious meal will be served. Lodging is included as well. Some previous ceramic experience is .of advantage.
