Introduction
On Centre – Fall is a course dedicated to throwing and firing functional ceramics, with attention to glazing and surface techniques.
Techniques
On Centre – Fall offers continuous practice, coupled with one-on-one attention from the instructor. It allows for real progress on the wheel and trains the ability to translate ideas into three dimensional objects. Exercises aim to enhance both skill and awareness, so that the particpants will see improving their pots in form and finish. Furthermore, there is much attention to glazing and surface techniques. Thoughtful and controlled application of glaze will be encouraged and cover a wide range of decorative possibilities from work done with clay immediately after throwing to work done with glaze, simple and more complex will be shown. The practical part of the course is complemented by a series of visual talks covering historical and contemporary aspects of ceramics. The work will be executed with two different tipes of stoneware and firings will ocurr both in reduction and oxidation atmosphere.
Teaching Method
There will be a main istructor, supported by an additional instructor for some specific aspects like glazing and critique . They will divide their time time between demonstrations for the group and, as necessary, one-to-one assistance. Students have a generous working space at their disposal. During the second part of the course, particpants may pursue a project of their own choice, that will be chosen with the help of the instructors. On Centre- Fall will end with a final show. Logistics
Students will stay and study in the supportive environment of La Meridiana, with logistics like lodging, transportation and lunch taken care of.is intensive course is open to all levels but some previous experience with clay may be an advantage. The course is open for a maximum of 8 students. A delicious mid day meal is included on all working days.

The artists and instructors
Franco Rampi started working as a potter in 1978. After an apprenticeship in England and a cycle of studies in Italy he opened his own studio in Tuscany where he produces both functional objects in small series and one off pieces. He works mainly in stoneware, whilst continuing his research on clays, slips and forms. He has taught workshops on throwing and glazing for many years, collaborating with La Meridiana since 2010. www.francorampi.it
After her studies in Art History in Paris and Florence, Eve Carrobourg pursued in the field of ceramics. She was trained at La Meridiana under the guidance of its founder Pietro Maddalena and John Colbeck. She extended her collaboration by staying as workshop-technician for the School where she discovered a true passion for glazes.
After having completed a specialization on high-fire glazes in France, she worked as a full-time teacher on glaze-technology at the CNIFOP Ceramic Centre in France.
She was prized by the “Marcel-Bleustein-Blanchet Foundation” to fulfill a research on glazes. She is currently completing her research in order to publish a book on high-fire glazes.

The workshop fee includes the following:
Tuition of 6 – 8 hours per day;
Studio open 12 hours per day;
All materials and firings;
Lodging in single room;
Freshly prepared three course lunch with wine on all working days;
Welcome breakfast, Welcome and Final dinner;
Coffee break in the mornings and in the evenings.
Payment - Refund Policy
A deposit is required at registration. After submitting the registration form, you may proceed with the payment on-line. If you choose to pay by bank transfer, the registration will be confirmed once the deposit has been accredited in our banking account. The balance must be paid at the beginning of the course.
Cancellations
You may withdraw within 14 days of registration without incurring in any penalties and will have the deposit fully refunded. No refund of deposits past 14 days of registration, pursuant to articles 53 and following of the EU consumer protection legislation.
If La Meridiana cannot hold the course due to unforeseen events beyond our control, La Meridiana reserves the right to offer a voucher for a different course of your choice. The voucher is valid for two years. The deposit will be transferred to the new course.
Safety
La Meridiana is equipped to comply with the current safety standards regarding Covid-19, including social distancing between people in and outside the studio. The daily maintenance of hygiene measures is guaranteed. Please note that participants will be required to follow the security protocol and to comply with some simple precautions.
