Growth and inspiration: A three days intensives for ceramic art terapists in collaboration with the Foundation Lene Thun

The foundation is committed to provide art therapy through clay modelling mainly in paediatric oncology. Under the guidance of Isabella Fazzo, participants completed a three days intensive of training for ceramic art therapists.

The main objectives? To process the experience of working with sick children, to discover new methods and share experiences. It’s important to grow together as a community among art therapists who, together with 600 volunteers, support more than 10,000 boys and girls in hospitals every week.  The participants discussed the quality of their offer, never stopping to convey the beauty and value of an activity that inspires and brings hope. Furthermore, they worked on a new project that will unite the pieces produced in the various hospitals in one large installation.

The Foundation Lene Thun operates mainly in paediatric oncology throughout Italy. A number of dedicated ceramic art therapists run weekly ceramic sessions in hospitals throughout Italy.  These sessions become a real psychological support during the period of illness and their effectiveness as a support to medical pharmacological therapy is scientifically recognised.

Clay handling is much more than just a recreational activity to pass the time and alleviate boredom in hospital. To different extents and on different levels, the act of handling is a form of self-expression, and therefore an opportunity to access the inner world through non-verbal methods of communication and expression.
