In its more than 40 years of activity, La Meridiana has hosted many internationally renowned artists who have worked and taught at the school. Many of them have left works of art, large and small, depending on their preferred technique.
This exceptional variety of works is brought together in The Ceramic Garden, set up in the gallery and garden.
To facilitate the visit, a route has been organised that guides visitors through a garden that is remarkable in itself. (And here we reveal a secret: such is the passion of La Meridiana’s founder, Pietro Maddalena, for gardening that he likes to introduce himself to unsuspecting visitors as “the gardener”).
In the garden, you can admire 50 works by artists such as Alessio Tasca, Paolo Staccioli, Philippe Farrault, Alessandro Gallo and many others. Visitors can explore The Ceramic Garden with the help of a map. The gallery houses other important works and a select range of items for sale. Admission is free.
The gallery
The school considers it vital that students not only acquire skills through training, but also feel inspired and realise the vast possibilities offered by working with clay. In this respect, the gallery and the garden serve as valuable learning tools, offering students the opportunity to touch and observe pieces crafted using various techniques, including throwing and handbuilding, low-firing and high-firing, glazing, painting or leaving raw. Such a rich array of objects is sure to spark inspiration!
