13A-2024 – Sara Dario – Silkscreen print on Porcelain
March 25 – 30 2024
Printed images on form
Handbuilding and printing. Some experience required

Introduction
Silkscreen Print on Porcelain is a five-day course in which you will learn the basics of Photo-Serigraphy and its application on porcelain. Through silkscreen print, photographic images are transferred onto porcelain slabs, which are then transformed into tiles and a variety of other functional and decorative objects. This technique opens new perspectives for both art forms: exalting the photographs as they are molded to the third dimension of the porcelain bodies, and embellishing the porcelain objects via application of the silkscreen prints.
Tecniques of silkscreen print
The course will start with instruction on the method and criteria for choosing suitable photographic images. Participants will be asked to bring a choice of high-resolution digital photographs, bearing in mind that nature and landscape images are the most suitable to begin with. A preliminary selection from these photographs will be processed to make them functional for screen printing. The second step involves the creation of the frames, the preparation of the color and the crafting of the porcelain slabs. Next is the printing on the raw slabs, as well as studying and experimenting with the rendering of colors. Ultimately, when students have acquired sufficient skills with the printing, they will create tiles, then also vases or bowls, to highlight the beauty of their photographs. Those with advanced porcelain making skills and experience may tackle more complex objects.
Teaching
Instructor Sara Dario leads students through experimentation with their own images, prints and shapes, and helps them to realize their personal artistic visions. Sara Dario draws on her own wide experience and years of experimentation. From this, she passes onto her students a great variety of ideas for successfully applying screen print on porcelain. Students will learn from her, for example, about the various problems and related solutions of the technique, as well as other tips on the aesthetics of combining these two arts, such as the choice of images and how to enhance them through the plastic form.
Logistics
On every classday, a delicious meal will be served. Lodging is included as well.
