October 4th – 10th 2020
Transferring images with the possibility of superimposing colour.
Handbuilding. For all
The theme will be Instruments and Music, with all their metaphorical meanings. A Cello player herself, Maria always felt that those wonderful instruments are like boides, not only in their shape, but also in their voice. We will make instruments in clay, and decorate them, alike the mandolines and guitars decorated with human imagery in the past.
We will study various print techniques, learning the process of transferring images with the possibility of coloring and superimposing drawing. We will learn to make our own screens in the darkroom, from images and photos or writing that each participant will bring to the course. Work will be single fired to 1150°C.
Maria Garzuly is a wonderful artist. In her teaching she combines practical information with a poetic vision of the world. To attend one of her courses becomes an unforgettable experience.
Maria Geszler-Garzuly „We are part of the wonderful or dreadful nature that surrounds us – this philosophy of Rousseau inspired my making for decades, in the creation of several art pieces. It is the way I look at the landscape when I make photography, this is the way I touch clay and porcelain, when I take it in my hands. This is how I perceive the wet clay and my silk-screened images, as I organically curve my pictures and build my sculptures. This desire leads to the hills, endless meadows and waters and seashores, to dissolve and to get lost in “nothingness”, “infinity”.”
Maria Geszler-Garzuly completed her studies at the Academy of Art and Craft in Budapest in 1965. She worked as an industrial designer between 1966-80, setting up her own studio in 1975.
Her award winning work can be found in museums and collections all over the world. Her competent and sparkling teaching style is appreciated by the students of her numerous visiting professorships at universities in Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, England and Scotland.
