Introduction

Conversation pieces aims to develop a working method by responding and above all by experimenting with a theme related on the number two: Dialogues, Twinning, Duo, Double, Duality, Symbiosis, Connections, Dependencies….

Working method

We will work in two phases: The first days will be devoted to exploring the multiple possibilities of dialogue between two clay volumes in the form of games and experimentation.  This will be done possibly with a workshop partner, with the idea of opening new perspectives. The second phase of Conversation pieces will focus on a more intentional and conscious work on the notions explored and analysed during the first investigations.

Contents

An important factor of the course will be the awareness of the space; around, between, and in relation to the objects installed in a fictitious place. The students will work from models in order to study light, perception and scale. Students will also observe how the sculptures/objects developed during the week occupy space. Emphasis is on the conceptual and practical elaboration of the pieces. To allow for maximum fruition of the five days available, the pieces willnot be dried and fired.

Instruction

Corregan will follow the students collectively and individually, pointing out theoretical, critical and technical aspects as their work develops. As a group we will regularly look at images of contemporary artists in connection with our theme.

Logistics

On every classday, a delicious meal will be served. Lodging is included as well. The workshop is suitable for all levels.

The artist

Daphne Corregan was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. USA. She moved to France in 1971 and studied at the School for Fine Arts in Toulon, Marseille and in Aix en Provence. At the Pavillon Bosio, a school of art and scenography in Monaco she taught ceramics from 1989 to 2015. She has led ceramic workshops and participated in numerous international symposiums throughout the world. Her work is exhibited internationally and is housed in many private and public collections. She was awarded the Medallion for Cultural Merits from Monaco and is member of the International Academy of Ceramics. www.daphnecorregan.com
