16-2022 – Curtis Benzle- Porcelain: Colour and Light
April 17 – 23 2022
The extraordinary potential of vitreous porcelain
Handbuilding. For all
Porcelain: Colour and Light celebrates the beauty and magic of light, as it accentuates color, expands form and energizes surfaces in translucent porcelain.
Curtis Benzle will discuss the unique, light transmitting characteristics of vitreous porcelain and will follow up with an exploration of techniques used to colour and incorporate light into our artwork. Topics covered will include relief carving (lithophane), colour additions, colored clay techniques and porcelain formulas. In Porcelain: Colour and Light we will consider colored, translucent porcelain in its many manifestations; sculpture, pottery (agateware or neriage), translucent lighting and jewelry.
Mornings will be devoted to exploration, demonstrations and technical discussions aimed at unlocking mysteries, expanding knowledge and empowering creativity. Afternoons will be devoted to making your quiet, personal experimentation or technical guidance and assistance, whatever it takes to help you bring out the best.
On every classday, a delicious meal will be served. Lodging is included as well. The workshop is suitable for all levels.
The last kiln opening will be in the morning of Saturday, therefore plan your travels so to not leave La Meridiana before 9.30 am.
For participation, a Covid 19 Vaccination Certificate is required.
