21 Paper Clay. Experimental Construction Techniques
Rebecca Hutchinson
May 24th 30th 2015

Handbuilding. For all skill levels. With CEU credits for Art Teachers.

In this workshop we will explore paper clay as a versatile medium, suited for both Artists and K-12 Teachers and feasible within classrooms and studios of all levels and resources. ( 2 graduate credits are available through Field-based Graduate Programs in Education, Southern New Hampshire University - Vermont Center).
Working with firing and non-firing options with paperclay and qualities of translucency, weightlessness and sculptural building ease participants will be encouraged to utilize methodologies that serve their individual ideas and expand their conceptual directions. Teachers taking the course will also be encouraged to develop projects that are easily translatable to a classroom, with a complete application of reliable techniques and ideas that adapt to a variety of situations at schools and are great for shared learning.
Demonstrations will include clay preparation, building techniques for using paper clay (Weaving, utilizing hot wax and stencils, dipping absorbent materials, working over armatures, building with paper sandwiched paperclay, slip trailing, working with hard construction) firing and non-firing options; all to achieve qualities of translucency, weightlessness and sculptural experimental building ease.  The workshop will be balanced between demo watching and studio construction time.
The workshop setting allows you to combine your love for travel and cultural exploration with the opportunity of earning Continuing Educational Credits. The ceramics course takes place in the inspiring beauty of the Tuscan hills.

Cost: € 960
The workshop fee includes the following:
• Tuition (class is 6/7 hours per day with 12 hours studio time)
