June 26th– July 9th , 2016

Handbuilding. For all.

This workshop will focus on hand-building techniques such as coil, slab, pinching, and modeling to create floor, table, and wall sculptures.
The focus of this class will be to explore and be influenced by the Tuscan landscape, architecture and history to create sculptural and/or functional forms based from your observations.

Led by instructors Donna Polseno and Natalie Macellaio, students will investigate both the wall and the table as sites for their clay pieces. The workshop will focus on traditional hand building methods with local terracotta clay to discover and pursue the overlap of sculptural forms and artistic influences.
Finishing techniques will include the use of underglazes and low-fire glaze to enhance the natural beauty of the terracotta and provide additional function when needed.
In addition to the studio work, Natalie Macellaio will be coordinating excursions to regional museums, architectural sites, artists’ studios, and other significant destinations that will expand the Tuscan experience. On request, a detailed day-by-day programme will be sent by email.

The total cost of the course is 2100 Euro; Single price supplement: 280 Euros.
