October 16th - 29th 2016

Throwing. For all

During this two week workshop we will be making a wide range of forms on the potter's wheel I.e. bowls, bottles, teacups, fresh flower containers, and covered jars. After bisque firing, the class will build and fire several times in a small SALKU Kiln to stoneware temperatures. (Cone 9-10 or approximately 2350 degrees F. or 1300 C.) Please bring only your favorite tool and your beautiful experimental self. This workshop is open to all levels of expertise, and everyone will receive one on one instruction. Lectures regarding The History of Kilns of the World, Pots and Potters from the Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra, India, The History of American Studio Pottery, and an insight into the influence that Bernard Leach and Hamada Shoji have had on potters around the world for almost a century will be shared during the two weeks of the workshop. This is a two-week all inclusive experience where your biggest and only concern will be working with clay. When finished with the making, we will go off travelling the countryside, tasting wines and visiting local pottery studios. Other field trips will take us to Florence and the Cinque Terre. It’s a programme that makes you feel and know you are in Italy!
