Throwing. For beginners and intermediate
This eight-day workshop hold in the marvellous space of La Meridiana’s Nature Studio is dedicated to throwing and glazing. It consists in five days of intensive throwing training, followed by 3 days dedicated to glazing and decorating. Thanks to the small dimension of the group (max. 7 students), there will be much individual attention for each students. On the wheel we will approach the fundamental throwing techniques. The practice of different ways of manipulating clay, from preparation to throwing and finishing processes will expand familiarity with the medium for all. We will start with cylinders, and then make bowls, jugs and mugs. Adding handles and spouts will complete the methods taught. The throwing section will finish with a review of trimming skills. We will spend three full days with glazing, allowing for much calm in this final step of the making. Starting with exhaustive demos the participants will have sufficient time to familiarize with the various glazes and to perform the glazing process in a confident manner by dipping or pouring the glaze. We will use a stoneware clay and fire in reduction atmosphere to cone ten.
Takes place at the Nature Studio in the gardens which may be reached climbing a set of steps.
