Porcelain/Carbon-trap Shino Glazes, Throwing
Intermediate/Advanced

This 2 week workshop will focus on realizing dramatic results with carbon-trap shino glazes, in particular using Malcolm Davis Carbon-Trap Shino. Through slides, hands on demos and multiple firings, we will explore the do's and don'ts of achieving success with this beautiful, temperamental type of glaze. Sharon will cover the entire process, from mixing, to drying, to firing schedule and explain why each step is equally important to attaining quality results. Students are encouraged to bring a small porcelain pots plus test tiles from home for early, 1st week glaze tests.
Even though we will be spending many hours working in the studio, there will be time to immerse ourselves in the rich culture and history of Tuscany...not to mention La Meridiana’s fabulous 3-course lunch with wine during the working days. Sharon likes to keep the itinerary flexible, so that everyone can enjoy their workshop experience and time in this wonderful place without feeling overwhelmed.
